“Emma”, a C31UC, wins the Trans Tahoe in US

The Trans Tahoe Multihull Regatta was held in the US from 12-14 July 2012. A Corsair 31UC, “Emma” which was skippered by Bill Roberts, won the coveted Corsair Perpetual Trophy. Bill reports below.

Emma (a Corsair 31UC) has won the 2012 Trans Tahoe Multihull Regatta and the Corsair Perpetual Trophy.

I want to thank Corsair for supporting the Regatta and Corsair Owners with such a unique and beautiful trophy. This trophy is already recognized as a prestigious recognition of sailing performance and provides an additional incentive for participating in the Trans Tahoe Regatta. The quality of this Trophy also promotes a very positive perspective of the quality of Corsair Trimarans.

I also want to commend Gary Helms (from Helms Yacht Sales in San Francisco, Corsair’s local dealership) for his enthusiastic representation of Corsair and his promotion and support of the Harmonic Convergence event and the Trans Tahoe Race. Gary’s generous contribution of shirts to the Harmonic Convergence was well received by all of the HC participants.

The Trans Tahoe was one of the most exciting races that I have ever participated in. We had strong wind most of the race (except at Dead Man Point) and Emma performed beautifully, even though a rip appeared at the clew of her jib early on in the race. She was able to beat to windward at 10-12 knots and on broad reaches, she often hit 18 knots. Absent a spinnaker, she did not do well on downwind legs but made up for it on upwind and reaching legs.

The race ended with a photo finish with Emma coming in only two seconds behind Honukia. On a corrected basis, Emma won by a significant margin.
