The Harmonic Convergence is an overnighter on beautiful Emerald Bay, where the multi’s anchor with their transoms just kissing the beach. There is a potluck dinner and beach party Thursday evening. Its usually a fast afternoon reach down from the Coast Guard ramp near Tahoe City, and a motorsail back mid-day on Friday. The ramp is an excellent facility. Boats coming to Lake Tahoe now require hot water wash and inspection for shellfish on their bottoms and in bilges; several places on the Lake provide this service at a modest fee.
Saturday’s Trans-Tahoe is a 35-mile race criss-crossing the northern half of the lake, usually sailed in medium air and flat water, starting in mid-afternoon and finishing at sunset, with a good multihull fleet. Sometimes there is breeze and chop in the late afternoon, by the finish its typically light. There is an awards luncheon on Sunday, after everyone has prepared their boats for the trip home.
I will have just returned from working out of the country for four months, and so Bill and I look forward to the weekend to get Origami’s hull wet again and to hang with other sailors in Emerald Bay and at the beautiful and inviting Tahoe YC bar. TYC genuinely welcomes the multi’s and puts on a great show.
